Hoops for Homeless is a New Britain Recreation and Community Services event that partners with several non-profit organizations within the City. Its mission is to raise awareness and funds for homeless youth and families in New Britain with its primary fundraiser being a three-on-three basketball tournament every year. This year will be the 10th Annual Hoops for Homeless Basketball Tournament, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2025 in Osgood Park, 460 Osgood Ave in New Britain. Registration starts at 8:30am and games start at 9:00am.
Teams will consist of 3 to 4 players with 3 players on the court at a time. The tournament is played on a half-court, with a 10 minute game clock or a first to 21 points scoring format. Scoring awards one point for shots inside the arc and two points for shots outside the arc. Games will be officiated. Possession changes after each made basket and the ball must be cleared or moved beyond the arc to start a new offensive play. Fouls and violations will be called by officials with shooting fouls resulting in one shot for the player that was fouled. Teams are encouraged to wear similar colored t-shirts. Each team must have a team leader that is 18 years of age or older. Team leaders must stay with their team until their team wins the division or is eliminated from the tournament.
